About Windsoul Safaris

A Nairobi safari company, planning trips one conversation at a time

We don't sell off-the-shelf tours. Every trip starts with a chat about who's travelling, what you'd love to see, and how you like to travel.

From there we plan the route, book the camps and lodges, and arrange the vehicles and guides. It might be the Maasai Mara in migration season, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, or Kruger and the Cape. We work with guides, lodges and conservancies we know well across East and Southern Africa, and we keep an eye on the trip while you're out there.

Our aim is simple. We want to plan safaris that are worth the journey, that treat the land and its people with respect, and that leave you wanting to come back.

Where we go

Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa

Three very different countries. Many of our guests combine two, and the calendars below show the best months for each.

A wildebeest herd crossing a river during the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara Kenya
Maasai Mara · Amboseli · Lake Nakuru · Samburu

Our home ground. There's the river crossings of the migration, elephants in Amboseli with Kilimanjaro behind them, and rhino at Lake Nakuru, all within a day's drive of Nairobi.

Best from July to October, for the migration

Two giraffes crossing the Serengeti plains with a hot air balloon overhead Tanzania
Serengeti · Ngorongoro · Tarangire · Zanzibar

Big open plains and the Ngorongoro Crater, where the wildlife is packed in close. It's easy to add a few days on Zanzibar's beaches at the end.

Best from June to September, and December to February for the calving season

Two white rhinos standing in golden grassland in a South African reserve South Africa
Kruger · Cape Town · Winelands · Garden Route

The Big Five in and around Kruger, then Cape Town, the winelands and the Garden Route. It's a good choice if you want a safari and a city break in one trip.

Best from May to September, when it's dry and easier to spot animals

Safaris by road

Our scheduled safaris

Travelling on a set departure keeps the cost down, because the vehicle, the guide and the park fees are shared across the group. Here are three of them — there are seven in all, and every one can also be run privately on your own dates.

Guest reviews

From people who've travelled with us

★★★★★

Every detail was handled. Our guide seemed to know where the cats would be before we did, and some days it felt like we had the Mara to ourselves.

We asked for something special for our honeymoon, and they delivered. Quiet camps, a private vehicle and a dinner out in the bush we'll never forget.

Two countries, three flights and five camps, and every connection worked. We'd book with this team again.

Good to know

Questions we get asked a lot

Can't find what you need? Ask us on WhatsApp.

When is the best time to go on safari?

The Maasai Mara is at its busiest from July to October, when the migration is in Kenya. In the Serengeti, the calving season runs from about January to February. April and May are the green season. It rains more, but the parks are quieter and many camps drop their rates.

Honestly, there's no bad time. It just depends on what you want to see.

Do I need a visa?

Most visitors to Kenya need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before they fly. Tanzania and South Africa have their own rules, which depend on your passport. Once you've booked, we'll check what applies to you and walk you through it.

How far in advance should I book?

For migration season (July to October) or the Christmas holidays, try to book 6 to 9 months ahead, because the best camps fill up early. At other times of year, a few weeks' notice is often enough.

Can you work with my budget?

Yes. We can plan anything from a simple road trip with tented camps to a luxury fly-in safari. Give us a rough figure and we'll tell you honestly what it will get you.

Are safaris OK for children?

Yes. Many camps welcome families and have family tents or rooms. Some activities, such as walking safaris, have a minimum age, and we'll let you know about those when we plan the trip.

What happens after I send an enquiry?

A member of our team will reply, usually within one business day. We'll ask a few questions, then send you a draft itinerary with a quote. We'll keep adjusting it until it's right, and there's no obligation to book.

Tell us about the trip and we’ll do the rest

Our enquiry form asks about your dates, who is travelling, where you’d like to go and the kind of places you like to stay. It takes a few minutes, and it means the first itinerary we send back is close to the trip you actually want.

Nothing is compulsory beyond your name, email and the number of adults. Skip anything you haven’t decided.
